Young guns win comfortably

29 November 2013

Goals from Dan Fletcher (pictured) and Charlie Brownlie earned our youngsters a comfortable 2-0 victory over local rivals AFC Mansfield last night.

The win cements our position at the top of the H-K-L North Midlands’ League table ahead of next month’s title showdown with Blidworth Welfare.

Our side took an early lead in last night’s clash at the Worksop Van Hire Stadium when Fletcher converted a spot-kick, having been brought down inside the area.

Winger Trovarn Thompson had the chance to double our lead moments later, when he too was fouled inside the area, but his penalty was saved by the AFC Mansfield keeper.

On 21 minutes, we finally made it 2-0 as Brownlie slammed the ball home amidst a goalmouth scramble, after Kyle Hempshall’s header rattled the upright.

AFC Mansfield had their skipper sent-off due to a serious lack of indiscipline prior to the break, when he kicked a Stags defender in a bizarre off-the-ball incident.

After the re-start, Fletcher twice came close to adding a third goal, whilst Chris Spencer blazed over from inside the area in another Stags attack.

No further goals were forthcoming, however, but the victory is enough to open up a six-point cushion at the top of the table.

Team: Kumari-Hill, Hempshall, Brownlie, Koczalski, Green (Hodgett-Young), Walker, Fitzpatrick, Spencer, Thompson (L.Thomas), Banton (Roome), Fletcher.
