Preview: Southend vs Stags

1 November 2013

Our team travel to Southend United tonight, keen to stretch their unbeaten away record in Sky Bet League Two to seven matches.

Here’s everything that you need to know ahead of the clash at Roots Hall…

TEAM NEWS:

Defender James Jennings could return to the starting line-up, having served a one-match suspension for receiving five yellow cards.

Meanwhile, shot-stopper Alan Marriott and centre-back Ryan Tafazolli could both be in contention for the match.

However, we will be without John Dempster (suspended), Martin Riley (achilles) and Chris Clements (achilles).

RECENT FORM:

We go into the match at Roots Hall unbeaten in six away matches in Sky Bet League Two.

Our side, who have already amassed 12 points on the road, also boast the joint-tightest defence in the league, having shipped just 12 goals.

Nevertheless, we haven’t taken maximum points since Saturday 28 September, when Calvin Andrew found the net in our 1-0 success at Chesterfield.

Southend, who are currently in 13th position, go into the clash on the back of defeats to Dagenham & Redbridge and Newport County respectively.

The Shrimpers have Won 6, Drew 2 and Lost 6 of their 14 matches this season.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS:

Our team have registered maximum points on their last two visits to Roots Hall.

In the 2004/05 campaign, we were 1-0 winners thanks to a late strike by Paul Warne. In the previous season, we won 3-0 with Iyesden Christie bagging a hat-trick.

Our full record against the Shrimpers is as follows: Won 20, Drew 13, Lost 16.
