Our ladies team were consigned to a disappointing 8-0 defeat at Leicester City Women yesterday.
Fiona Watts bagged a hat-trick for the rampant hosts, whilst Kate Lowder and Abbie Hinton both struck twice. An own goal also added to the misery.
Leicester, who currently sit in third place, went ahead on the quarter-hour mark when Hinton slotted past Emma Horsnall, following Lowder’s through ball.
The hosts doubled their advantage in an almost carbon-copy move just a few moments later, but this time it was a Stagettes defender that inadvertently bundled the ball home.
Worts grabbed her first of the afternoon to make it 3-0 on 25 minutes, following a well-worked free-kick that was started by Hinton.
Lowder added her name to the score-sheet when she dispossessed an opponent and advanced on a mazy solo run, before finishing from 12 yards out.
The Stagettes’ misery was further increased before half-time as Becky Kemp’s deep cross into the six-yard box was poked into the net by Lowder.
Leicester scored again shortly after the hour mark, as Worts produced a cool and composed chip-finish in a one-on-one with Horsnall.
The Foxes made it 7-0 with just a quarter-of-an-hour remaining when Hinton took advantage of a high defensive line by the Stagettes, and drilled the ball home.
Worts then completed the rout and claimed her hat-trick on 79 minutes, firing home from close-range at the second attempt, after her initial effort was blocked.
As a result of this defeat, the Stagettes remain at the foot of the Midland Combination Division table, but just a point behind Solihull Ladies.
