Boys buoyed by win - Clucas

9 November 2013

Midfielder Sam Clucas believes our side will now be full of confidence following the emphatic 8-1 victory at St Albans City in the FA Cup First Round with Budweiser.

Stags ended a four match goalless run, comfortably beating the Saints as well as proving to be clinical in front of goal.

Clucas expressed his delight at the victory and was more than pleased following his four goals which helped us progress into the Second Round of the FA Cup.

“It’s a confidence boost and everyone is buzzing inside the dressing room now, especially after coming from 1-0 down,” said the 23-year-old.

“We showed what we are made of and proved we can score goals. The last few games have been a drought and today we certainly showed we can put our chances away.

“I’m just glad to get on the scoresheet, but more importantly we’re in the hat tomorrow for the draw.

“I go out there every game and give 100%. The most important thing for me every match is the team getting three points or progressing through to the next round of the cup. We have done that today so I’ll be looking forward to the draw tomorrow to see who will play in the next round.”

Meanwhile, the midfielder stated he doesn’t mind who we are drawn against in the next round, and believes today’s result will be important heading into our next league game at home to promotion-chasing Oxford United.

He added: “I want anyone in the next round. If we perform well we can beat any team on our day.

“We’ve got two hard league games coming up now, but we are into the next round of the FA Cup so the confidence will be high heading into these fixtures.

“We have scored a few goals, but maybe could have kept a clean sheet. However, we scored eight goals and are through to the next round.  You can’t ask for more than that so now we will look forward to the next few games.”
