Central midfielder Jack Thomas today signed his first professional contract, aged just 16, we are delighted to announce.
The youngster impressed in our youth team last season as well as on loan at Carlton Town, where it is believed a number of Premier League and Championship clubs were monitoring his progress.
Sutton-in-Ashfield born, he signed on the dotted line in the presence of his parents Lindsey and Andrew, along with manager Paul Cox and joint youth team manager Richard Cooper.
He then spoke to mansfieldtown.net, saying: Ā āIām delighted. Ā It hasnāt sunk in yet, I think that may take a while, but itās great [to have signed].
Jack Thomas and Paul Cox are in conversation with our Head of Media & Communications Mark Stevenson
āI like to tackle, set goals up and chip in with the odd goal too,ā he added.
Manager Paul Cox said: Ā āHe has deserved this. Ā For his age, he shows a maturity both on the football field and in life in general. Ā Heās a level-headed lad and I think the kid will have an excellent future. Ā
āHe has come on leaps and bounds and I can see the lad playing at a very high level of the game if he continues his current rate of progression,ā he added.
His contract will commence on 01 July 2013.
