Cox pulls off coup with McGuire signing

13 May 2013

Paul Cox has fought off interest from a number of clubs to capture highly-rated midfielder Jamie McGuire.

McGuire, who made 40 appearances for Fleetwood Town last season, was also part of the Cod Army which won the Blue Square Premier title in 2012.

After putting pen to paper, the 29-year-old told us:  “I’ve known Paul (Cox) for a while, from my days at Cammell Laird and when he was at Eastwood.  What he did last year with Mansfield was incredible.  As soon as he showed an interest in me I wanted to tie down the deal.”

Paul Cox told us:  “I think my relationship with Jamie has aided the signing.  He has been coveted by a number of clubs, from non-league and Football League.  He is an all-action player who I would describe as ‘a complete winner’.”

Jamie McGuire’s contract will officially commence on July 01.

Speaking at this morning’s press meeting, Cox was pleased to announce that youth team players Jason Gregory, Ben Birch and Liam Marsden have been offered professional deals.
