Ground improvements at One Call Stadium

21 June 2013

Extensive revamp work has been taking place at One Call Stadium since the end of our Conference Premier title-winning campaign, so that it meets Football League standards.

Several improvements have already been made, whilst others, such as the fitting of brand new dressing rooms and the replacing of floodlight bulbs, are currently ongoing.

Earlier this week, the Blue Square Bet advertising boards were ripped down and these will be replaced by brand new Football League advertising signage in due course.

Supporters may have also noticed that a new metal fence has been erected outside One Call Stadium, between the Ian Greaves Stand and the North Stand.

Meanwhile, during the close season period we have also replaced the large metal gate which leads into the staff car park, club shop and club offices.

Chairman John Radford revealed at a Fans’ Forum last week that the cost of the improvements will be £148,000, though the Bishop Street Stand will remain as it is for the forthcoming season.

Head Groundsman Michael Merriman said: “There’s been plenty of work going on at One Call Stadium recently, and that will continue over the next few weeks.

“The floodlights have been painted and had new wiring, so they’re basically new. When work on them is finished, they will have double the LUX value compared to last season.

“That has cost us around £40,000 and we’ve also spent around £80,000 on new dressing rooms to get them up to standard for the Football League.

“They all needed to be a bit bigger, but we’ve also had to incorporate a female dressing room as well, due to new rules that were implemented two years ago.

“We’ll also have new dugouts next season, as another Football League requirement is that dugouts have to seat a minimum of 13 people.”
