Manager Paul Cox has confirmed that winger Sam Clucas is ‘close’ to agreeing a move to Mansfield Town.
Our boss, who was speaking at yesterday’s weekly press meeting, confirmed that he has been in discussions with the youngster who was Hereford United’s ‘Player of the Year’ last term.
“We’re very close to finalising a deal. Everything has been agreed [with him] and we think he’s going to be an excellent signing,” said our boss.
“Initially, we were told that he wanted to play in League One, but we’re based only 25 minutes away from his house and he doesn’t want to commute.
“So because of that situation, it has put us in the driving seat [to sign him]. We’re quite lucky because he’s a fabulous footballer.”
Cox also confirmed during his press conference that he has missed out on an un-named target, who has instead opted to join a Scottish Premier League outfit.
Nevertheless, the boss has held what he described as ‘positive talks’ with talisman Matt Green, and has met with a number of other players over the past week.
