Cox to meet with un-named striker

15 July 2013

Manager Paul Cox is expected to meet with a League One striker in the next 24 hours to discuss personal terms about a move to Mansfield Town.

Our boss confirmed after Saturday's friendly with Nottingham Forest that a bid had been accepted for the player, who is yet to be named.

"We're just waiting to talk 'personal terms' with the player, which should happen in the next 24 hours," said Cox, who was speaking at this morning's press conference.

"If we can agree terms with him then he could be here as soon as Wednesday in time for the Peterborough United game."

Describing the un-named player, Cox added: "He's very much a player who is in the Matt Green mould in terms of his powerful running, stature, physique and hunger.

"He leads the front-line very well and scored quite a few goals last season in League One.

"Hopefully we can get the boy on board, but I've been in this game now long enough to know that nothing can be confirmed until a signature is put on a contract."

Cox has also confirmed that several trialists will feature in tomorrow night's friendly at Chester, including winger Nathan Arnold.

"Nathan will be having a run-out tomorrow night and we need to make an honest decision about him. His attitude has been excellent whilst he's been with us and he's conducted himself very well."

An extended interview with the boss will be available to StagsPlayer subscribers later today.
