Cox: It's been an excellent week

20 January 2013

Manager Paul Cox believes our side can continue to go from strength to strength after yesterday’s hard-fought victory over Southport at Haig Avenue.

Despite trailing due to Shaun Whalley’s early strike, goals from Adam Murray and Lee Stevenson earned us our fourth consecutive away victory in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

“Southport have been in good form lately, so this is an excellent result and it was fully deserved, said Cox, who was speaking shortly after the full-time whistle.

He continued: “It [Haig Avenue] is a difficult place to come, so it’s been a good day at the office. We controlled the game for large periods and I’m very happy with that.

“After the first 15 minutes, I always felt confident Southport would never break us down.

“We’re not going to get carried away though. We’ve been to two really tough places this week and collected six points, and I feel that the lads are just starting to get into that mode now.

“The good thing is this group [of players] is getting stronger and the team spirit is getting stronger. Slowly, we are beginning to look like the team that we were last season.”

Our side host Nuneaton Town in the next league match, which takes place at One Call Stadium on Tuesday 22 January (kick-off 7.45pm).
