Preview: Tranmere vs Stags

6 August 2013

Mansfield Town head to The Wirral tonight as we face Tranmere Rovers in the First Round of the Capital One Cup (k/0 7.45pm).

Our side will be keen to return to winning ways, having lost on our return to the Football League at Scunthorpe United on Saturday.

Nevertheless, Rovers will also be equally determined to put on a show in front of their own supporters, after they were beaten 3-1 by Walsall at the weekend.

Tranmere boss Ronnie Moore has promised to make “one or two changes” to his side, who will be keen to win at Prenton Park for the first time in four outings.

The tie must be settled tonight, so if scores are level at 90 minutes, extra-time and penalties could decide which team progresses to the Second Round.

The Second Round takes place on w/c 26th August, with potential opponents including Liverpool, Everton, Newcastle United and Aston Villa.

LAST TIME OUT

Tranmere (L 1-3 vs Walsall): Fon Williams, Foster, Horwood, Holmes, Taylor, Robinson, Akpa Akpro (Bell-Baggie), Atkinson (Koumas), Power, Sodje, Lowe.

Stags (L 0-2 vs Scunthorpe): Marriott, Beevers, Dempster, McCombe, Jennings, Dyer (Briscoe), Murray, Howell, Clucas, Stevenson (Meikle), Rhead (Palmer).

TICKET NEWS

Stags' Supporters who make the two-hour trek to Prenton Park will be located in the covered Cowshed Stand, which can accommodate around 2,000 spectators.

You can purchase your ticket on the turnstiles, with admission prices as follows: £12 Adults, £8 Senior Citizens (65+) & Young Persons (17-22), £5 Under 16’s.

LAST MEETING

Our last meeting with Tranmere Rovers was over a decade ago in April 2003, when strikes from Gary Jones, Simon Howarth and Jason Price consigned us to a 3-1 defeat.

Bizarrely, however, this match was a re-arranged fixture, after the original match was abandoned at half-time due to a protester scaling a floodlight pylon.
