Murtagh could return for Daggers clash

29 August 2013

Midfielder Keiran Murtagh could feature against Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday, having completed a full 90 minutes in a behind-closed-doors match this week.

Murtagh, who joined us from Macclesfield Town in June, has missed our first five competitive matches this term due to a knee problem.

Manager Paul Cox said: “I don’t know if [Saturday’s game] may come a little bit too early for him, but Keiran got through a full game this week.

“He did well, but we may still have to check on him before the weekend.”

The Daggers, who are led by Wayne Burnett, make just their second-ever visit to One Call Stadium on Saturday, and our boss anticipates a tough game.

Cox said: “It’ll be tough on Saturday. [Dagenham & Redbridge] have started the season very similar to ourselves and it’ll be a different game to the Portsmouth one in many ways.

“They’re going to be a very hard side to beat. We’ve got reports about them, I’ve seen the DVDs, and they’re like any team at this level.

“They went to Scunthorpe [United] a few weeks ago and earned a very good result, so they’ll be hard to break down, and we might have to be patient.

“I thought the overall performance against Portsmouth was excellent, especially in the second half, but what we want to do now is get three points from a home game.

“But for different reasons, Saturday’s game will be as hard as the Portsmouth game.”

Meanwhile, our boss has also confirmed that striker Jake Speight is available for transfer.
