Our magnificent youth team moved back to the top of the Football Conference Youth Alliance (North Division) with a hard-fought 3-2 victory at Chasetown this afternoon.
The Stags, who have now gone 11 league matches unbeaten, went ahead midway through the first period when Jack Hawkins converted Billy Simpson's free-kick, but the hosts drew level shortly prior to half-time.
However, just moments after the re-start, striker Ross Lamb capitalised on a defensive mix-up and squared a simple pass to team-mate Joe Flint, who re-established our lead.
Jake Green then sealed maximum points in the penultimate minute of normal time, before Chasetown netted a consolation in added time.
Team: Hopkins, Simpson, Gregory, Birch, Coupe, Green, Thomas (c), Marsden, Hawkins, Flint (M. Jones), Lamb, (Harris).
Our young guns are next in action at home to Gateshead on Monday 15 April for what is expected to be a title showdown against their closest rivals.
