Our youngsters bounced back in splendid style from their defeat to Gateshead on Monday, as they cruised to a comprehensive 6-0 win over Harrogate Town at Watnall Road yesterday.
Striker Matt Harris opened the scoring in the early exchanges when he converted Billy Simpson’s cross, before Ross Lamb doubled our advantage thanks to some fine work by Matt Jones.
Jones then struck for the first time in competitive action in more than three years, when he slammed high into the net following an intelligent pull-back by Harris.
Big Ben Birch powerfully headed home Jack Hawkins’ set-piece free-kick just after the break, prior to Hawkins converting Lamb’s lay-off for goal number five.
Harrogate, coached by Paul Bolland, offered nothing in response to our youngsters’ dominance, and substitute Lewis Chambers completed the rout late on.
Team: Hopkins, Coupe, Birch (Robinson), Gregory, Simpson, J.Jones, Hawkins, Thomas (Williams), M.Jones, Harris, Lamb (Chambers). Unused Sub: Fell.
