Young guns set for new season

10 September 2012

After a long summer of intense training, our youth team finally kick-off their Football Conference Youth Alliance campaign this Wednesday afternoon.

Mark Hemingray’s outfit face a tough trip to the Midlands, where they will lock horns with Birmingham City (kick-off 2.00pm).

The young guns have bolstered their ranks with the acquisition of several new players in recent months and have been in fine form during pre-season.

In their final warm-up encounter, the youngsters put Worcester City to the sword in ruthless fashion as they romped to an emphatic 5-2 victory, courtesy of a hat-trick from Jordan Vilums and other goals from Jack Thomas and Callum Pursglove.

Striker Joe Flint has been in exhilarating pre-season form and also netted in the 3-0 success at Glossop North End in the FA Youth Cup Preliminary Round last week.

As a result of that victory against, Hemingray’s young guns have been handed a home tie against Gresley in the next round of the competition.

The game, which is open to the public, will be played at One Call Stadium on Friday 21 September (kick-off 7.30pm).

Admission prices have been set at £2 adults and £1 concessions.
