Cox delighted for Meikle call up

31 August 2012

Winger Lindon Meikle has been named in the England C squad for the upcoming friendly against Belgium - news which has delighted manager Paul Cox.

The 24-year-old, who has already won two caps at international level, has enjoyed a fine start to the season and scored a brace against Kidderminster Harriers to help us record our first victory of the campaign. Meikle’s last England call-up came three months ago when he was a member of the squad that suffered a heavy defeat against Russia at the Arena Khimki in Moscow.

Speaking yesterday, Cox said: “Lindon is just getting better and better. I feel a sense of pride because I’ve worked with him since he was a youngster at Eastwood Town and I’ve seen him develop into the player he is today.

“Not only has he blossomed into a very good footballer, but he is also a fine young man too and I am thoroughly delighted for him. He deserves the opportunity to represent his country again at international level.”

The clash against Belgium is due to take place at the Gemeentelijk Sportstadion in Zaventem on Wednesday 12 September.
