Mansfield Town under-18s face Hull City this Saturday in the U18 Professional Development League Cup (11.30AM kick-off).
Stags were 3-0 winners in their last outing against Port Vale. Forward Noah Aynsley-Johnson, defender Tyler Whyle and attacker Ronnie Kokkinos scored for Mansfield in a superb display at RH Academy.
Professional development phase lead coach Steve Chettle was pleased with what he saw last weekend.
“We were very good," said Steve. "The scoreline probably doesn’t reflect how good we were.
“That was one of the strongest teams we have played this season. Five of their players had played for the first team in the EFL Trophy in the week.
“We were on top from start to finish.
“It was a fantastic performance all round it was really, really good.”
The former Nottingham Forest defender lauded his side’s effort last weekend.
“[Our] Hard work [impressed me most], the effort they put in without the ball to get the rewards when they get the ball back.
“We work really hard in training and it showed in the game on Saturday.”
On the weekend’s opponents, Hull City, Steve said: “It’s one of our longer trips this season.
“We’ve watched Hull and they’re very expansive. They play some really attractive football but we’ll work on what we’re really good at.
“We’ll try and find ways to eliminate their strengths as well.”
The address for Saturday's venue is: Bishop Burton College, Hull City Academy, The Croft, HU17 8QG
