Scott Garner began his career at Leicester City and actually signed a professional contract at the end of the 2007/08 season.
Ahead of the 2008/09 season he joined non-league Ilkeston Town on loan where David Holdsworth was then the manager.
With Holdsworth later becoming The Stags manager and Garner being deemed surplus to requirements at the Walkers Stadium the Coventry born centre half signed a contract at Field Mill on January 8th.
Garner went on to become an instant fans favourite at Field Mill and scored his first ever goal in football away at Eastbourne Borough, and was also named the Blue Square Player of the Month for January.
He went on to net twice more last season for The Stags against both Forest Green and on the final day of the season against Stevenage Borough.
Garner's impressive performances have seen him dubbed 'a future captain of the club' by manager David Holdsworth.
