Mark Hemingray's young team continued their unbeaten run in the Football Conference Youth Alliance North Division, as they came from behind to draw 1-1 with Gateshead at Field Mill this afternoon.
In wet and windy conditions, our league leaders faced a tough task from the off and spent the majority of the opening 20 minutes inside their own half, eventually falling behind on the half hour mark. Jordan Jones did well to clear a well worked throw-in however from the resulting corner; second placed Gateshead moved the ball quickly and gained the advantage from a corner.
Mansfield made the brighter start in the second period and drew level of 53 minutes. A flowing move down the left from Joel Holland saw him provide the assist with a well weighted cross, Leading scorer Adam Somes did the rest, getting in front of his marker to power home with his left boot.
Both sides had further chances to seal victory with the pick of the bunch heading Gateshead's way in the last minute. A good break through the centre saw the visiting front line 1 v 1 with Ryan Hopkins. But the Stags shot stopper got across well to keep out the ferocious shot and earn a point for his side.
The point puts Hemingray's side four clear of FC Halifax, who move up to second after today's results.
