Holdsworth makes 5th summer signing

Posted on: Thu 03 Jun 2010

David Holdsworth has completed his fifth signing of the close season with the capture of versatile defender Paul Stonehouse from Forest Green Rovers.

The 22 year old, who can play at centre half, left back or left midfield, progressed through Rovers' academy system.

He went on to make over 170 appearances for the club and was voted the supporters' player of the season in 08/09.  He also holds the record for being the youngest player in the Conference to have reached 100 matches played.

Speaking to www.mansfieldtown.net he said: "I am delighted to have finally signed for the club after a few weeks of talks.

"There was interest from other clubs but it was an easy decision once I knew Mansfield were interested.

"I'd like to play in the Football League and coming here will give me a platform to do that."

He follows Adam Smith, Chris Smith, Kevin Sandwith and Steve Foster by penning a one year deal.

Said Manager David Holdsworth:  "I am thrilled Paul has joined us.  It is a big commitment for him but it is testament to Paul that he wishes to come away from his comfort zone.

"He loves a tackle and has an excellent left foot," he added.
