Shaw set for Gateshead switch

Posted on: Wed 26 May 2010

Striker Jon Shaw has left Field Mill by mutual consent after expressing his desire to play closer to his family in the North East.

The frontman made six starts and eight substitute appearances, scoring three goals, since his move in January from Rochdale.

He now looks set to sign for Blue Square Premier rivals Gateshead.

In a statement released to www.mansfieldtown.net the 26 year old said:  "My family are in the North East and I want to take my wife and son nearer to them.

"I have enjoyed my time at the Stags and wish them all the best for the future.

"They are a club destined for the Football League," he added.

David Holdsworth said:  "I wish Jon and his young family all the very best and would like to thank him for his commitment whilst with Mansfield Town Football Club.

"I respect his honesty regarding this situation," he added.
