David Holdsworth has today snapped up Tamworth defender Chris Smith on a one year deal, we are pleased to announce.

The centre half made 38 appearances for the Lambs last season and received the most Man of the Match awards for the club.

He played in every game when Tamworth won the Conference North title in 2008/09, claiming the Players' Player of the Season award in the process.

The 28 year old, a former Reading trainee, previously played for York City and Worcester where he made a total of 165 appearances.

Speaking to mansfieldtown.net Smith said:  "You only have to look around the place (Field Mill) to realise what a big club it is.

"Mansfield is a bigger club (than Tamworth) with the right foundations to get into the Football League."
