Duncan Russell is new assistant manager

Posted on: Fri 21 May 2010

Ex Blackburn Rovers fitness coach Duncan Russell has been appointed as David Holdsworth's new assistant, we are pleased to announce.

First team coach Gareth Holmes will now take up a new role within the club.

The 52 year old, a UEFA A Licence holder, has held various positions at six clubs within the past 12 years.

He began his coaching career at Derby County and subsequently joined Walsall where he enjoyed promotion to the old Division One in 2001.

Promotions were also gained at Wolves in 2003 and at MK Dons when they also completed the double by claiming the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in 2008.
He followed Paul Ince to Blackburn soon after and has coached some of England's top players in recent times including Matt Le Tissier and Paul Gascoigne.

Speaking to www.mansfieldtown.net he said: "I am really pleased to be here and am looking forward to the season ahead already.

"I have a lot of experience and have worked with players from the lowest level to the highest.

"Training will be enjoyable but the players will work hard, make no bones about that."

"I know this club has a deep history with patriotic fans," he added.
