Pacy forward Jake Speight is glad to be playing football again after undergoing knee surgery nearly a month ago.

The 24-year-old came off the bench during the second half of last Tuesday's home defeat to York to make his first appearance since our clash with Gateshead here at Field Mill on February 6th.

Michael Brough and Jake Speight are speaking to Mansfield 103.2's Dave Rhodes

He said: "On a personal level, I was really pleased to get on and get back on the pitch with the lads. No-one likes to be injured.

"I have worked hard so I don't think I'm far off with my fitness. It is just about getting that strength back in my knee.

"We've got some good strikers at this club but I feel that I bring something different from the other lads because I'm small and very fast. It's another dimension for the team."

The former Sheffield United trainee has praised the relationship that he enjoys with the other players and boss David Holdsworth and is raring to go and play out the remainder of the season but says that the faithful may have to be patient and wait a little while longer until he is back to full fitness.

"It is a great club, and a great set of lads here and I've really enjoyed playing under the Gaffer," he added.

"I'd go wherever the Gaffer is. I think because I've had my injuries here, and he's put his faith in me and brought me to the club, we are pretty close.

"I would like to start every game. Obviously it is the Gaffer's decision and I'm sure he will make the right choice as he has managed me well in the past.

"He's just got to make sure that I'm 100% fit."
