Stags aim to continue unbeaten run

Posted on: Wed 17 Mar 2010

David Holdsworth does not anticipate making any changes to his squad for tomorrow night's clash with York.

Whilst there are no fresh injury worries, Luke Jones, Oliver Hotchkiss and Jon Challinor are all set to miss out whilst Jake Speight remains doubtful.

Jones is not expected to return for at least a fortnight after suffering ligament damage and he is still experiencing alot of swelling whilst Jon Challinor does not have a stress fracture as first feared but remains on the treatment table. Hotchkiss is sidelined with an ankle injury whilst Jake Speight continues to build up his match fitness after undergoing a knee operation.

The Stags go into the match on the back of a five game unbeaten run following our 0-0 draw against Tamworth here at Field Mill on Saturday. Although three points would have been more desirable, Holdsworth was nonetheless pleased to keep a clean sheet.

He said: "To put a run together at this stage of the season is always positive. We have taken four points off Tamworth this season but we really wanted six.

"We put 16 crosses over in the first half but we didn't have a special moment in front of goal. I will take a clean sheet any day though as there's not been many occasions when we haven't opened the door.

"We have had five games on the trot undefeated so we have to reflect on that in a positive way."

Meanwhile, The Gaffer has called on the faithful to come out in force and be in good voice tomorrow night.

"I have had a fantastic response this weekend, again. from supporters who don't agree with that (criticism) but fans are fans, they pay their money and they are entitled to their opinion.

"I just hope that the fans will come and support the lads. We have a big game against York and is that (criticism) the best way to motivate them?

On a barren run but still a threat:  City's Richard Brodie

York will be hoping to end a seven game winless run tomorrow night after suffering five defeats and two draws. They have now dropped out of the top five but the Gaffer is still expecting a tough contest. Their chief threat will come from striker Richard Brodie was the division's leading scorer until very recently with his 17 league goals.

He added: "Martin (Foyle) has signed some very good players and they had a good run prior to Christmas. In recent weeks they have had suspensions and things have not really gone for them.

"They have had a run recently that Martin Foyle will be concerned with but they have some very capable players such as Michael Gash, Michael Rankine and Richard Brodie.

"Brodie's workrate is phenomenal and he would get into any side in this division."
