Winger Ryan Williams has said sorry to fans on behalf of the players for their performance against Gateshead on Saturday.

Poor starts and two goals conceded in the opening minutes of each half condemned us to defeat in front of a bumper crowd of over 7,000 as fans flocked to Field Mill to take advantage of our innovative 'pay what you want scheme'. Local lad Williams said that he was thrilled with the attendance and that the side would look to bounce back quickly with a win at Stevenage tomorrow night.

"To see that was amazing and the turn out was a credit to the town. It's just a shame that we did not play well," he said.

"All I will say is stick with us. As a player it's what you play football for - to play in front of crowds like that . We just weren't at the races and there's no excuses whatsoever.

"I would like to apologise on behalf of the lads that we did not put a performance on for them and we will be looking to put it right starting from tomorrow night.

"The lads have had time to think about everything over the weekend and have come into training and are ready to kick on.

"We owe it to people and we will be doing our best to do it tomorrow night."
