Bolt of lightning almost wipes out Stags squad
A fierce bolt of lightning may have wiped out our playing squad this morning during a routine training session, mansfieldtown.net can reveal.
Our first team squad, along with manager David Holdsworth, first team coach Gareth Holmes and physio Jason Truscott, were stood just 30 yards away when the bolt struck a nearby fence.
"I nearly dropped my tea," manager David Holdsworth told mansfieldtown.net
"It came extremely close and shook up a few of the players. We were in an open field and had nowhere to hide. It struck so close that the players had to rush for cover.
"It was too dangerous to continue training. The first thing we did was to get the players out of the way to make sure they were safe," he added.
Thankfully everyone came out unharmed during the sudden downpour which hit Mansfield this morning. The players spent the rest of their day in the Fitness First gymnasium.
We announced the scare on our official twitter service as soon as news filtered back to the ground. Click here to join
