Ian Greaves - RIP

Posted on: Fri 02 Jan 2009

We are in mourning after learning the sad news that one of our finest ever managers, Ian Greaves, has passed away, aged 76.

Ian lead us to arguably our finest hour in 1987, when his team beat Bristol City on penalties at Wembley to secure the Freight Rover Trophy.

He was our first team boss from January 1983 to February 1989.  As a manager, he had spells also at Huddersfield Town, Bolton Wanderers, Oxford United, and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Chairman Andrew Perry lead the tributes:  "This is sad news.  Ian will go down in history at Field Mill for what he achieved witth us.  On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to Ian's friends and family."
