We are delighted to announce the appointment of David Holdsworth as our new manager on an 18 month contract.
Holdsworth, 40, leaves his post as first team boss at Ilkeston Town, a club which he joined in July this year. He inherited a squad at the New Manor Ground which had previously survived relegation on goal difference alone. He since guided The Robins to the Play Off positions in the Unibond Premier Division.
Prior to his stint at Ilkeston, Holdsworth enjoyed a successful time as reserve coach at Scottish outfit Gretna, where he won the reserve league title. He was then appointed as the club's youth director.
As a player, David played in defence and amassed over 550 appearances for clubs including: Sheffield United Birmingham City, Walsall, Bolton, but most prominently Watford.
Last year, he was offered the chance to be Paul Ince's assistant at MK Dons.
More recently he turned down the offer of first team boss at Grimsby Town
Holdsworth is young, ambitious and hungry to succeed. We are excited about the team moving forward under his leadership.
Chairman Andrew Perry told mansfieldtown.net: "David is very enthusiastic about the job that lies ahead. He is a very positive and genuine person, and a leader. He received glowing references from the likes of Trevor Francis and Glenn Roeder, who are well respected people in the game and we are delighted he has joined us."
