Posted on: Wed 07 May 2008

Our ground staff are already working on the Field Mill pitch in order to get it up to standard for next year in the Blue Square Premier.

Yesterday, groundsman Michael Merriman and his team began a 10 week program in an attempt to make the Field Mill pitch one of the best in non-league.

The operation will cost £9,000 in total, 20 bags of 20kg seed and 40 tons of sand.

The Field Mill pitch was voted as one of the best five pitches in last season's League Two awards.

Groundsman Michael Merriman told mansfieldtown.net:   "We will start the process of re-seeding the pitch this morning. Yesterday, half an inch was taken off the top of the pitch.  The work to getting it ready for next season is well underway"

He added: "I want to make the pitch as good as it was last season, and the foundation work which we're putting in will hopefully help us achieve that this season."

The grass is expected to be fully grown by the end of June.
