Non-executive Chairman James Derry leaves Field Mill
James told mansfieldtown.net: "For a number of months I have attempted to form a consortium to purchase Mansfield Town Football Club.
"Ultimately these efforts have not succeeded and I feel that my position as Non Executive Chairman of the Club is now untenable.
"I therefore with immediate effect resign as Chairman of the Club.
"I would not wish for this statement to overshadow what is the far more important issue of the game tomorrow and I will make no further comment other than to state I have been proud and honoured to serve the club and wish them all the best for the future ."
Said Chief Executive Stephen Booth: "I would like to express my thanks for all the efforts that James has put into his role as Club Chairman for the past 15 months. It is with considerable regret that I have accepted James' resignation but trust that he will continue to play a part in the future of the club."
"In the meantime, I would hope that the focus over the coming weeks is on the field, starting with tomorrow's crucial game at Notts County."
Mr Booth added: "Finally, there has been a great deal of media speculation regarding John Batchelor. I am happy to go on record to say that Mr Batchelor has met with myself and Keith Haslam. However, no formal agreement has yet been reached. No further comments will be made until there are any significant developments."
