There were no comings or goings at Field Mill ahead of yesterday's permanent window closing at 6pm.

It is in stark contrast to other times during Holdsworth's reign.

But the Stags manager feels that is a reflection of how well those he has brought in over the summer are currently playing.

Mansfield moved to the top of the Blue Square Bet Premier table for the first time in almost a year with Monday's 4-0 victory at Altrincham.

"We did have a couple of sniffs around our players on a loan basis, but nothing has come of them," said Holdsworth.

"No manager wants unnecessary disruption and we have avoided that. The bottom line is I'm happy with the squad we have at the moment.

"The lads are performing really well and there is healthy competition for places, so I don't think there is any real need to change it."

Holdsworth can, of course, sign and release players on loan in a week's time until the back end of November.

The most obvious candidates for that would be regular first-team squad members from last season who have struggled to break into the side this time, such as Ryan Williams, Matt Somner and Steven Istead.

He added: "If players do want to go out on loan then we will consider it in the best interests of them and also the club's finances."
