Mansfield Town will only move out of Field Mill as a last resort, chairman Andy Perry confirmed today.

Earlier this month the club re-negotiated their lease with landlord and former Stags owner Keith Haslam.

It took the length of the deal back up to ten years, the minimum needed for a club wanting to be considered to play in the Football League.

Mr Perry insists in the long-term the club want to purchase the ground from Haslam so they no longer have to pay rent.

That still seems a distant prospect, with significant funding needed.

There has been suggestions that the Stags could move to an out-of-town venue. But Perry has vowed that moving to a new stadium and away from the ground Stags have occupied since 1922 is not on the agenda.

"Our priority is to stop where we are in the long-term. This is our home," he said.

"Of course, we want to own our own ground and that is the aim in the future.

"It's something we have to address because you are restricted when you are working with any landlord.

"But I stress there is still a long way to go before we are in that position. Leaving Field Mill is something we would only consider as an absolute last resort because there is still a lot of history here."

Perry feels confident Mansfield are secure at Field Mill under their lease for the foreseeable future. And he sees no reason why they cannot continue to extend the lease.

Perry added: "We have a solid agreement and a mechanism in place that means it should be no problem to keep rolling it on.

"It is in the landlord's interests as well as ours to keep extending it because, if we get back in the Football League, then we will have to pay more rent."
