Merciless Mansfield surged to the summit of the table, sweeping aside a hapless Altrincham side, who are still seeking their first victory of the campaign.

The win was no less than Stags deserved after enjoying total domination against their struggling hosts.

Goals from Paul Connor, Adam Smith and a brace Keigan Parker secured the win as Mansfield recorded back-to-back wins for the first time in 11 months.

Altrincham looked short on confidence throughout the contest, reflecting their rock-bottom league position.

The win for Mansfield, however, was never in doubt and it was they who snatched the all-important early goal from their leading scorer Paul Connor.  On 11 minutes, Adam Smith drifted in an outstanding left-wing cross and Paul Connor rose above his man to expertly head beyond the diving Stuart Coburn.

Then Louis Briscoe got by Ryan Brown before delivering from the right, but his cross was too close to Coburn.

It was Adam Smith, the architect for the first goal, who turned scorer for Stags' second.  He cut inside from the left and let fly from 30 yards with a blistering shot to beat Coburn, after being urged to shoot from manager David Holdsworth.

By now, Stags were flourishing in confidence from their two early goals and may have notched a third goal moments later when Connor headed wide from a Briscoe cross.

Gary Mills prevented Altrincham from reducing the deficit on 21 minutes, clearing off the line from a Rob Williams header after Alty had won a free kick mid-way inside the Stags' half.

Another headed chance from the hosts went begging when Kevin Holsgrove's header flashed wide from a Shaun Densmore free kick.

Stags roamed forward and Connor almost added to his tally with a 15 yard shot which was beaten away by Coburn.

Parker should have put Stags 3-0 ahead on 36 minutes. He headed wide from six yards after Kevin Sandwith's pin point left-wing cross.

Altrincham had the perfect chance to pull a goal back just 38 seconds after the restart, but Damian Reeves placed his shot wide from inside the area after a Ryan Brown assist from the left.

The hosts, desperate for an equaliser, resulted to long distance efforts, such as Matty Crowell's 35 yard drive which was easy for Alan Marriott.

David Holdsworth made a double substitution on 64 minutes.Luke Medley replaced Louis Briscoe and Kyle Nix was introduced to the match, on for Adam Smith.

Stags took their foot of the gas in the opening stages of second half, resulting in sporadic bursts of Altrincham pressure, but the visitors were always in control.

Paul Connor broke the offside trap after being put through by Parker, but couldn't make it count on 70 minutes.

Medley used great strength to force a corner from nowhere, chasing down a loose ball with a little over 15 minutes left.

Stags' Kyle Nix, with a third goal in sight, tried to catch Coburn off his line, with a shot from inside the Mansfield half.

Rob Duffy replaced the impressive Paul Connor in attack before rampant Stags put two more on the scoresheet.

Altrincham, still searching for their first win of the campaign tried in vain to pull a goal back.  James McCarthy hit a rasping shot at goal but was denied by the fingertips of Alan Marriott. It was a rare highlight in a game in which the home side were second best throughout.

Stags sealed the win nine minutes from the end as Keigan Parker bagged his second goal in as many games.  Luke Medley raced to the byline before pulling back for Parker who was left with the simple task of putting the ball in the back of the net.

Gary Silk, in good form, as ever, at right back, surged forward to shoot at goal with his left foot after being laid off by Tyrone Thompson.

Anthony Danylyk made matters worse for Altrincham in the last minute of stoppage time by conceding a penalty after tripping Keigan Parker inside the area.  The same man stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way to wheel away in jubilation in front of the Stags' fans.  It was the striker's third goal in two games, capping off a peerless Stags' display which puts them in first position, ahead of Wimbledon by scoring more goals.
