VIDEO: Gaffer: Let's move on

Posted on: Tue 09 Mar 2010

David Holdsworth has put Saturday's incident firmly behind him and has encouraged others to do the same.

The incident in question involved a 'supporter' throwing his season ticket at the manager as he approached the tunnel during the half time interval of our victory over Salisbury here at Field Mill at the weekend.  The Gaffer said that although he could empathise with the individual, the timing of his actions were slightly puzzling due to the fact that we were well on course to securing the three points and were 2-1 up at the time.

The manager is speaking to Mansfield 103.2's Dave Rhodes at today's press meeting.

He added "I would really like to move on from this. I think it is important that we understand that fans have frustrations but also managers have frustrations and the players do too.

"We can move on from the incident and the club have made their statement.  I don't want it to gloss over what was a good performance so we can move on from here and look at the positives from Saturday. It was a tremendous win against a good side.

"I have learnt in life that sometimes your first reaction is not always the best reaction and I've had some positive feedback from the weekend from lots of fans.

"It's wonderful having that support and I'm grateful for it.

"We were winning so I can't understand it, I don't know what his thoughts were. With the greatest respect to the gentleman (who availed himself of his season ticket) I hope it was regretable."

The Gaffer was keen for events at half time not to overshadow what was an impressive all round performance that saw four different names get on the scoresheet and ensured that we did not lose any further ground on the top five teams. He continued that with the expunging of Chester's results coming into force this week, the six points it has cost us were of course a hinderence but that there are still many points available to us.

"I've tried to win every game and to score four more goals is excellent for the strikers. We could have had alot more if their 'keeper had not had the game of his life.

"We've had four games without defeat. It's a big blow but we have to move on. We can't sulk and must do things pragmatically.

"There are still lots of games to come."

In other news, midfielder Jon Challinor will undergo a scan after taking a slight knock in training last week. Holdsworth revealed that he underwent a fitness test prior to kick off against Salisbury and that this was why he was substituted at half time . Also, pacy forward Jake Speight has now returned to full training.
