Blue Square Summary | 17th March 2010

Posted on: Wed 17 Mar 2010

Four of BSP sides were involved in FA Trophy action at the weekend

Barrow hold the advantage after their semi final first leg tie with Salisbury following a 1-0 win at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium whilst holders Stevenage put one foot in the final by comprehensively beating Kidderminster 5-1 at Aggborough.

Turning our attention back to the league, second-placed Oxford failed to capitalise on Stevenage's break from the Blue Square Premier and used up their game in hand on the league leaders with a 1-1 draw with Kettering. Boro extended their lead over Oxford to four points following their 1-0 win over Histon at Broadhall Way last night.

Luton and Rushden & Diamonds both ran out winners on Saturday with victories against Crawley and Gateshead. Rushden beat the Heed 8-0 to record the highest margin of victory in the Blue Square Premier so far this season whilst Luton tightened their grip on a play off spot last night with a second win in three days after recording a 3-1 victory over Kidderminster at Kenilworth Road.

York ended a run of three straight defeats by securing a goalless draw with Altrincham at the weekend but went one better with a win at Field Mill last night. Courtney Pitt's 20-yard screamer handed the Minstermen their first win in eight games and elevated them to fifth spot.

Kettering now occupy sixth place after Saturday's draw with Oxford and a 2-0 defeat to Altrincham last night.

AFC Wimbledon and Crawley come next in seventh and eighth position after Steve Evan's men beat Ebbsfleet 2-1 at the weekend and the Dons beat Eastbourne 2-0.

At the other end of the division, Grays stay rooted to the foot of the table following a 0-0 draw with Hayes & Yeading on Saturday whilst Barrow boosted their chances of beating the drop and lifted themselves out of the bottom three with a 2-1 win over Wrexham at Holker Street last night. Gateshead got back to winning ways by beating Forest Green 3-1 yesterday evening leaving the Gloucestershire outfit seven points adrift of safety.

In the weekend's other result, Cambridge United made it three wins in seven days by winning their local derby with Histon 2-1 at the Abbey Stadium only to make it four wins on the trot with a comfortable 3-1 home win over Salisbury last night.
