Blue Square Summary | 24th February 2010

Posted on: Wed 24 Feb 2010

The freezing weather returned to upset another round of fixtures in the Blue Square Premier last weekend.

Three games fell afoul of the conditions, our clash with Rushden & Diamonds included, meaning that only five league fixtures remained alongside three FA Trophy Quarter Finals.

The three postponements plus Chester's current suspension from footballing activity took the overall tally to four matches that will have to be squeezed into an already tight end of season run in.

Ebbsfleet continued their surge up the table and recorded their fifth win in six games following a 3-1 win at Gateshead. Magno Vierra was among the scorers to take his season's tally to 15.

Eastbourne fought out a 2-2 draw with Altrincham to keep them just above the bottom four whilst Forest Green added another point to their fight for survival by coming back from a goal down against Cambridge to secure a 1-1 draw at the New Lawn.

Crawley's outside chances of a play off spot were dealt a huge blow by Wrexham, who beat them 2-0, whilst Wimbledon got the surprise result of the day by winning away at Luton 2-1.

In the FA Trophy, Barrow's game with York could not go ahead due to a frozen pitch at Holker Street whilst Kidderminster, Salisbury and Stevenage all booked their places in the semi-finals.

A similar scenario was repeated last night as Barrow's trophy clash with York was called off again along with league games at Grays and Luton. Three games did survive though enabling Oxford to extend their lead at the top of the table to six points by beating AFC Wimbledon 2-0.

Gateshead hauled themselves out of the bottom four with a 1-0 win at home against Altrincham whilst Kettering ran out 3-1 victors at Tamworth to climb within a point of the play off places.
