Youth preview: Oldham Athletic vs Stags

19 November 2015

Mansfield Town’s youth team face a trip to Oldham Athletic in Saturday’s Football League Youth Alliance fixture (12pm).

With the senior side visiting the Latics on Tuesday for their Emirates FA Cup First Round replay, the young Stags go into the game full of confidence after knocking out Dereham Town 4-3 in last week’s FA Youth Cup, setting up a tantalising home tie with Premier League outfit Sunderland.

Mansfield currently lie in 5th position in the league table after suffering a 4-0 defeat at Notts County in their last outing, but will be hoping to get back to winning ways against their lower ranked opponents.

Oldham are also heading into the fixture having lost their previous league match at the hands of Scunthorpe United, slipping to a 1-0 home defeat.

On the other hand Tony Philliskirk’s men do remain in this year’s FA Youth Cup after knocking out Chester 3-2 in extra-time during their First Round clash, and will face Morecambe at home on 27 November

John Dempster will be without midfielder Drew Gibson for the trip to Oldham after he was ruled out due to injury, while long-term absentees Devante Reittie, Tom Slone and Adam Bishop all still miss out. Recent signing Tyler Johal is available again after being cup-tied for last Friday’s Youth Cup victory.

Oldham Athletic’s youth team play their home matches the club’s training ground at Chapel Road. The address is as follows:

Oldham Athletic Football Club Training Ground,
Chapel Road,
Oldham,
OL8 4QL
