Winger flies in from Motherwell

Boss Adam Murray snaps up young winger

We are pleased to announce the signing of pacey young winger Nathan Thomas on a free transfer from Scottish Premiership outfit Motherwell.

The 20-year-old, who hails from North Yorkshire, made two appearances for Ian Baracloughā€™s team in 2014/15 after joining them on a free transfer midway through the season.

A graduate of Sunderlandā€™s youth set-up, Thomas spent time at Darlington 1883 in the early days of his career, before penning a move to Plymouth Argyle ā€“ for whom he turned out on 24 occasions.

Whilst at the Pilgrims, he scored his only senior goal against Hartlepool United in a 2-0 victory last term.

On his signing for the club, Thomas said:Ā  ā€œAdam Murray [the manager] sold the club really well to me, with the style of football he wants to play and where he wants to take the club.

ā€œI think he wants a youthful approach this season, with loads of energy, playing with wide men and playing football by passing the ball and playing it through the sections of the pitch ā€“ itā€™s how I was brought up to play football, the proper way.ā€

Manager Adam Murray said: ā€œNathan is somebody who was with us for a month at the end of last season [on trial].

ā€œHe's a direct quick winger with a superb left foot which can create and he has ā€˜a goal in himā€™.

ā€œAs a person he is hungry and has a point to prove. He knows that he has to maximize the potential he has and we will help him to do this.

ā€œIt's an opportunity for Nathan and with hard work and the right attitude I believe he can be special.ā€
