New signing Craig Westcarr believes he has arrived at a good club in Mansfield Town.

The 30-year-old, formerly of Portsmouth, put pen-to-paper on a contract earlier today – becoming our ninth summer signing after others such as Matt Green, Chris Beardsley, Lee Collins and Adam Chapman all agreed terms.

With our squad nicely taking shape nicely, and other new faces still to be added, the Nottingham-born frontman believes that we are capable of having a good campaign in 2015/16.

“I had a chat with the new manager at Portsmouth (Paul Cook) and it wasn’t going to work out there, so I came here and the manager told me what he wants and what his outline is for the season,” explained Westcarr about how his move to One Call Stadium came about.

“I was quite impressed. I know this is a good club from coming here and watching games and stuff. With the players that we’re going to sign, hopefully we can have a good push for promotion.

“My aims are to work hard, score goals and have a better season than last season.”

Primarily a striker, Westcarr boasts versatility as he can also operate out wide if required to do so. Describing his playing style, he continued: “I’m just hard-working. I like to score goals and set up goals.

“Obviously I prefer to play up top, but I’m comfortable playing in any position. If the manager needs to put me out wide to do a job then I’m more than happy to do it.”

A title winner at this level during his days at local rivals Notts County, Westcarr believes the key to being successful all comes down to consistency.

“You’ve just got to be consistent in this league,” added the striker. ”If you get two or three wins, you’re up there fighting for the play-offs or the league title. So [being successful] is about consistency, believing in what you’re playing and sticking to that.”
