Waterfall excited by new challenge

Defender relishing prospect of game-time in the Football League.

Defender Luke Waterfall is relishing the chance to get more minutes under his belt in the Football League following his loan switch from Scunthorpe United earlier today.

The 24-year-old, who has already spent time on loan at Macclesfield Town this term, has penned a deal at One Call Stadium until the New Year.

ā€œI found out about the move a couple of days ago,ā€ said Waterfall. ā€œI trained at Scunthorpe on Tuesday and then got a phone call in the evening saying that this had come up, so it was a ā€˜no-brainerā€™.

ā€œI desperately want to play football this year, so this move is perfect for me. Itā€™s League Two, close to home, and it fits the bill for everything really.ā€

Explaining his season so far, the centre-back continued: ā€œI did pre-season with my parent club, Scunthorpe, and Iā€™ve spent the last three months at Macclesfield Town in the Conference Premier.

ā€œI played about 18 games on the bounce and then went back to Scunthorpe, before coming here.ā€

On his playing style, he added: ā€œIā€™d like to think that I attack the ball well in both boxes and Iā€™d say Iā€™m a bit of an old-fashioned type centre-half. I know the manager likes to play three at the back and I think Iā€™d be comfortable in that system.

ā€œI know the lads have played the system quite a lot here, so everybody will know their jobs. Hopefully, I should be able to slot straight in.ā€

Waterfall, who enjoyed a successful three-year spell at Conference North club Gainsborough Trinity earlier in his career, could make his debut in tomorrowā€™s FA Cup first round tie at home to Concord Rangers.

He added: ā€œWeā€™re expecting a tough game. Theyā€™ll be coming here and trying to prove that they can play at this level.

ā€œIā€™ve done it myself when I was at Gainsborough and we played teams in leagues above. Youā€™re always giving 110% and trying to prove to everybody that you can play at a higher standard and trying to get noticed.

ā€œHopefully, itā€™s a game weā€™ll come through and get to the next round.ā€
