Tough-tackling midfielder pens new deal

12 May 2016

Midfielder Jamie McGuire has signed a new contract with the club following the end of the 2015-16 Sky Bet League 2 campaign, we are pleased to announce.

The Bikenhead-born player becomes the second member of the first team squad to put pen-to-paper on a new deal, following the announcement of midfielder Jack Thomas’ long-term contract last week.

McGuire, formerly of Fleetwood Town, first joined the club prior to the 2013-14 campaign and has since become a fans’ favourite at One Call Stadium for his tough-tackling and enthusiastic displays in a Stags’ shirt.

The 32-year-old was used carefully by manager Adam Murray in the previous campaign, making 22 appearances in all competitions.

"I'm buzzing and am already looking forward to next season," said McGuire, speaking to www.mansfieldtown.net.

Speaking about the 2015-16 campaign, in which Stags finished in 12th position in Sky Bet League 2, McGuire said: "It's been a good season, one of progression and we want to build on that heading into next season.

"I believe in the gaffer here (Adam Murray) and he believes in me and what I bring to the club," he added.

McGuire's new deal will be completed subject to Football League approval and will commence on 01 July 2016.
