Stags supremos are guests of honour

31 May 2013

Chairman John Radford and Chief Executive Carolyn Radford have accepted an invitation to be guests of honour at an annual charity football match this Sunday (3pm kick off).

The Stags supremos will be present at Glapwell Football Club to greet the players and hand out medals after the contest.

A team consisting of former Mansfield Town & Chesterfield legends will take on Once Upon a Smile Celebrity FC, captained by former Emmerdale star Danny Miller and featuring Dancing on Ice contestant, Matt Lapinskas amongst others.

Unfortunately, manager Paul Cox, who was due to take part in his second charity match as part of the 'Stags legends' team has had to withdraw due to a knee injury.

The annual charity match was formed following the illness of Jamie Walker, a member of our academy a decade ago, who underwent intensive radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment after being diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma in 2005.

He received the all-clear two years later, but still has regular appointments at King’s Mill Hospital, to whom a donation will be made following this match.

Jamie’s dad, former Chesterfield and Rotherham United striker Phil Walker, has so far raised over £75,000 for cancer and children’s charities through the annual charity match.

Former One Call Stadium favourites who are set to participate this year include Alex Baptiste and Tom Naylor, whilst ex-Spireite frontman Jamie Ward will also feature.

Admission prices are £5 Adults and £3 Concessions, and we encourage all fans to show their support for two thoroughly worthwhile causes.
