Stags snap up experienced left-back

Mansfield Town sign left-back Rob Taylor following trial with the club.

We are pleased to announce that left-back Rob Taylor has joined Mansfield Town, following a successful pre-season trial.

The 29-year-old, who was formerly with Port Vale, could now go straight into the squad for this Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two season-opener at Northampton Town.

Taylor is no stranger to the fourth tier, having helped Port Vale to promotion from this level in the 2012/13 campaign. In total, the energetic left-back featured on 181 occasions for the Valiants during a six-year spell, scoring 21 goals.

Taylor, who began his senior career at Solihull Borough, has also had spells at Redditch United, Evesham United and Nuneaton Borough.

An attack-minded player, Taylor is known for his pace and ability to beat defenders.

Manager Paul Cox said: “We're excited to get Rob on board. He's a good player who has experience of getting promoted from this league.

“Rob has come in and worked with us throughout pre-season and done well in the games. He's been patient. Now we've got to the point where we've agreed a deal and I'm happy with that.

"It's good news for the player and good news for the club."
