Stags make striker signing

16 March 2016

Giant forward Emmanuel Dieseruvwe has joined the Stags on loan until the end of the season from Chesterfield, we are pleased to announce.

Standing at 6ft 5in, Dieseruvwe will give manager Adam Murray another option in attack following Adi Yussuf's five-match suspension.

The former Sheffield Wednesday man will link up with his new team-mates today in preparation for Saturday’s Sky Bet League 2 fixture against Portsmouth.

Dieseruvwe progressed through Wednesday’s youth academy before making his professional debut whilst on loan at Fleetwood Town in their 4-1 victory over Newport County in Sky Bet League 2 in 2013.

After heading back to Hillsborough, the 21-year-old joined Chesterfield on loan in January 2015 and made the move permanent a month later, signing an 18-month deal.

On his immediate targets at One Call Stadium, Dieseruvwe said: "I want to help Mansfield get over the line and into the play-offs, work hard, help my new team-mates and get some goals.

"I'll grab this opportunity 'with both hands'. The manager (Adam Murray) seems like a very hungry manager, I want to repay him here with my hard work."

Adam Murray said: "It's great to be able to get Emmanuel in the building. We've got a very good player which will make our jigsaw look better.

"He is a target man, but he's not only that; for someone so big he has 'tremendous feet', and has had a good upbringing at Sheffield Wednesday where he was a prolific scorer in the under 21s."

"He hasn't played as many games at League 1 this season as he would've liked, even though he's played a good number of matches, but has scored in almost every game in the reserves."

The transfer will be completed subject to Football League approval.
