Stags' boss puts faith in current crop

22 March 2016

Mansfield Town manager Adam Murray has revealed that he has 'pulled the plug' on a potential striker signing and will keep faith in his current group until the end of the season.

The gaffer had been working on a deal to bring in a forward from a club in a higher league, but he's been frustrated in his efforts after seeing the move get dragged out over a number of days.

Speaking about his attempts to bolster his attacking options, he said: “[It’s been] a frustrating hunt – it probably hasn’t gone as we wanted it to. When you’re dealing with the bigger clubs, unfortunately Mansfield Town aren’t in control of them and we can’t tell them how quickly it needs to be done.

“I’ve pulled the plug on the one we had because it was taking too long and we’ve got too much work to do to have people coming in last minute with the games coming up thick and fast," Murray continued.

“We’ll go with what we’ve got; over the next nine games and the weeks we’ve got left training, we’re maybe going to look at our kids [youth players].

“I’ve got too much respect for my boys than to say: ‘here comes another body and you’ll go and sit in the stand now’.”
