Stagettes in cup final action tonight

31 March 2015

Ladies take on local rivals in hope to achieve silverware.

Tonight is the biggest game of the season for our ladies team as they take on Radcliffe Olympic in the Nottinghamshire Women’s County Cup Final (7.30pm).

The Stagettes visit Basford United’s Greenwich Avenue ground to take on their local rivals, and they will be hoping to bring silverware to One Call Stadium.

The Stagettes go into the game as underdogs, having lost to their opponents earlier this term, but can draw confidence from their exploits in previous rounds.

Our ladies have scored 16 goals in just four games en route to the final, whilst conceding just once in the process.

Their journey started with a superb 6-0 victory away to Underwood Villa in Round One, which was followed by another emphatic win at the next stage – this time a 5-1 success over Sherwood Girls.

Laura Watton struck the only goal as the Stagettes saw off the gritty challenge of Eastwood Community Ladies in the quarter-finals, before Teversal were thrashed 4-0 in the subsequent semi-final game at One Call Stadium.

Midfielder Hannah Bodle is relishing next week’s game and is urging supporters to turn out in good numbers to help cheer our ladies to victory.

“We anticipate that it will be a very tough game,” said Bodle. “Although previous games against Radcliffe Olympic Ladies have not gone our way, we’ve recently had a good run of results in the league which gives us confidence.

“I expect that the final will be a high-tempo physical battle and keeping the ball on the floor and in our possession will be key to winning.

“The girls will fight for each other and will definitely give Radcliffe a good game, which for neutrals, will make for a great final to watch.”

She added: “I think if we fight hard and work for each other we’ll definitely prove our worth and give them a very tough battle. We all believe we can come out on top and bring the cup home.”

Tonight's game takes place at Greenwich Avenue, Basford. Postcode: NG6 OLD.
