Former player takes up position within Football in the Community department.
A familiar face was back at One Call Stadium earlier this week as former player Scott Rogers began full-time work with our Football in the Community department.
The 22-year-old, who was previously on the books of the club as a youngster – signing a professional deal in 2012 after impressing at youth team level, had his career cut short last year when he suffered a broken leg whilst playing for non-league side Heanor Town.
Based on medical advice, Scott was forced to give up playing football, but he remained in the game as he accepted the part-time position of managing Heanor’s reserve team.
A life-long Stags supporter, Scott was delighted to recently find full-time employment as he accepted a position working within Football in the Community.
Scott will join us as Street Games Project Manager and help to coach football to hundreds of local children every week.
Happy to be back at One Call Stadium, he said: “I’ve obviously kept in touch with Mark (Hemingray, Community Director) since I was in the youth team here. He said there might be a vacancy here and I applied, got asked in for an interview, and fortunately I was successful.
“Obviously my playing career has come to an end, but I always wanted to stay in the game. Even when I was playing, coaching was something that always interested me. Apart from playing, coaching is the second best thing that you can do. I’ve been a Mansfield Town supporter since I was young and I’m delighted to be back.”
Community Director Mark Hemingray said: “Scott has attended Football in the Community activities since he was eight years old, so he knows the staff and what it’s like here and he’ll be a valuable asset to us.”
