Preview: Torquay vs Stags

18 October 2013

Can our side return to winning ways on the English Riviera? Here’s our match preview for tomorrow’s clash with Torquay United.

TEAM NEWS:

Midfielder Jamie McGuire could return to action tomorrow, having served a one-match suspension for receiving five yellow cards.

However, Paul Black (ankle) and Ryan Tafazolli (knee) are doubts, as the duo both picked up knocks in our reserve team loss at Hull City this week.

Midfielder Chris Clements is still sidelined, but is making good progress with the knee ligament injury, which he sustained in the win at York City in September.

RECENT FORM:

Our team are without a win in three matches in all competitions, but have registered 10 points from their last four away matches in Sky Bet League Two.

By contrast, Torquay, who are managed by Alan Knill, have won just once in six matches at Plainmoor this term, which was against Cheltenham Town last month.

Our side currently sit seventh in the table, whilst The Gulls are in 22nd position – just one place above the dreaded drop zone.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS:

Our last meeting with Torquay United was an FA Cup First Round clash at One Call Stadium in November 2010.

The Gulls, who were then under the guidance of Paul Buckle, earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory, thanks to Elliott Benyon’s late winner.

That encounter was the only time we have faced The Gulls in cup competition, despite 67 previous meetings between the two clubs.

We have registered several big victories over Torquay, though we were beaten 1-0 on our last visit to Plainmoor, back in November 2008.

Our full record against The Gulls is as follows: P67, W31, D18, L18.
