Preview: Stags vs Torquay

25 April 2014

Everything you need to know ahead of Mansfield Town’s Sky Bet League Two match against Torquay United on Saturday…

TEAM NEWS

Goalkeeper Lewis Price is expected to don the ‘keepers gloves again as Alan Marriott and Ian Deakin are still sidelined through injury.

Defender Darryl Westlake also suffered a hamstring problem in Easter Monday’s defeat to Cheltenham Town, whilst midfielder Chris Clements missed that match due to a knee injury.

RECENT FORM

Torquay arrive at One Call Stadium knowing that anything less than three points will see them relegated to the Conference Premier.

The Gulls temporarily staved off the threat of relegation in their last outing as they came from behind to win 2-1 at local rivals Exeter City. You can watch highlights by clicking here.

Meanwhile, Mansfield currently occupy 12th spot in Sky Bet League Two and have won four of their last six matches – including a 3-0 success over promotion chasing Rochdale.

The Stags tasted defeat in their last fixture, however, as they lost 2-0 on home soil to Cheltenham Town. You can watch the goals from that match by clicking here.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

Despite winning 1-0 courtesy of Elliot Benyon’s late goal in an FA Cup First Round clash in November 2010, Torquay boast a woeful record at One Call Stadium.

The Gulls have won just two of their previous 28 league visits to North Nottinghamshire.

The last time they registered maximum points here was in October 1996, when Ian Hathaway and Garry Nelson scored the goals in a 2-1 success. Their previous victory here before that was in October 1983.

In the reverse fixture at Plainmoor in October, the two teams played out a rather uneventful 0-0 draw. You can watch highlights from that clash by clicking here.

OFFICIALS

The Football League has appointed Mr Gavin Ward as referee for Saturday’s match. He will be assisted by Mr Mark Griffiths and Mr Peter Wright. The Fourth Official is Mr Richard Bartlett.

PROGRAMME

Regular contributor Jon Griffin also reminisces about ‘big’ Bob Ledger, who made a lasting impression during a two-year stint with us in the 1960s.

Elsewhere, it’s the end of the season and the final of ‘Going for Gold’. Lee Stevenson and Louis Briscoe go head-to-head, but who will boast enough knowledge to be our ultimate quiz champion?
